(Toledo News Now) -

Domestic violence is real. It is not like the movies or television; it is ugly and abusive and destroys families. It is never acceptable. It is never justifiable.

 Here are some startling statistics:

  • Every 9 seconds, a US woman is beaten or assaulted.
  • Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women, even more than car accidents, muggings or rapes.
  • Studies suggest that up to 10 million children witness some form of domestic violence annually.
  • Nearly 1 in 5 teenage girls who have been in a relationship said a boyfriend threatened violence or self-harm in a break-up situation.
  • And every day in the US, more than three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends.

Do we need to hear more?

If you are in an abusive relationship, get help. If you know someone struggling with this terrifying situation, help them. Domestic violence is real. It is ugly. It is never acceptable.
