Robinson Park shooting suspect gets $750,000 bond

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The man accused of shooting into a crowd of people in a Toledo park over the weekend was in court Tuesday.

Ben Besteder was arranged and issued $750,000 bond in Toledo Municipal Court.

Police say Besteder opened fire at the park near Robinson Middle School on Woodruff Avenue Saturday afternoon. At least three shots were fired. One hit Ernest Reed, who was taken to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Another hit an ice cream truck, which had a person inside at the time.

"Anybody could've gotten killed. You don't know if it's your sister, son, daughter, baby, cousin. It doesn't matter who it is. It's somebody's child. Somebody loves that child," said Yonnetta Scurles, the cousin of the shooting victim.

Besteder faces three counts of felonious assault with a weapon.
