SANDUSKY COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A town hall meeting was held Monday night at Fremont Ross High School for the public to ask questions regarding the lawsuit filed against Whirlpool Corporation by families in the Sandusky County cancer cluster.

The families are suing Whirlpool for allegedly dumping toxins that caused multiple cancer cases in eastern Sandusky County.

The attorneys who filed the suit on behalf of the families two weeks ago say they have been fielding a number of phone calls from the public, with questions about recent testing which the families claim shows a toxic chemical in their attics, benzaldehyde. The families believe it was put into the air by Whirlpool during their manufacturing process, and they say it likely caused the cancer that has claimed three children's lives and sickened many others.

The attorneys say others have come forward with cancer, wondering if it may be connected.

So dozens came together to learn more about the lawsuit.

"I am from Clyde, originally," said Juanita Wright at the meeting. "My son had cancer at 27 and we had already moved from Clyde, but I just want to know what's going on and if it's got anything to do with that."

Whirlpool representatives were not at the meeting, but said last week that there is no scientific evidence that shows the company is responsible for causing the cancer.
