Teen boater drowns in Wolf Lake

A teenager drowned early Sunday morning in Wolf Lake, after his boat capsized. His fellow boater made it safely to shore.

LENAWEE COUNTY, MI (Toledo News Now) - A teenager is dead, after drowning in Wolf Lake early Sunday morning.

According to the Lenawee County Sheriff's Officer, two teenage boys were on the lake fishing in a row boat late Saturday night.

The row boat capsized around 12:30 a.m. Both teens fell into the water.

One of the boaters, 18-year-old Steve Louis Chapo, was able to swim to shore. The other, 17-year-old Jeffrey Jon Walkowski, did not.

Walkowski, who was from Lincoln Park, Michigan, drowned in the water.

The Lenawee County Sheriff's Dive Team used sonar to search for Walkowski, along with thermal imaging and a spot light from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office helicopter.

At 8:18 a.m. Sunday, divers located Walkowski's body in deep water.

The incident is being investigated by the Cambridge Township Police Department.
