Police said the driver of the truck, Arthur English, in his late 70s called 911. He is an amputee and a diabetic on medications and probably should not have been driving.

He was charged with negligent homicide and inattentive driving.

Mykayla's grandmother is her guardian. Relatives said she is too upset to talk. They also said her grandmother feels guilty because she let Mykayla ride her bike.

The death of a child hit the community hard.

"The case is very tough on my officers as well as the community because a lot of us knew her family and a lot of my officers saw the young girl grow up to 7," said Helena-West Helena Police Department chief Uless Wallace.

The charges Arthur English faces are misdemeanors. He still must face a judge and could be sentenced to some time behind bars.
