Missing rings in Safadi case out of Waterville Twp - News, Weather, Sports, Toledo, OH

Rings could hold clues to unsolved murder of local businessman

(Toledo News Now) -

The Lucas County Sheriff's Office is asking for assistance from the public regarding the homicide of James Safadi. Investigators are looking for three suspects after Safadi was shot to death at his home Saturday morning in Waterville Township.

The rings pictured were among items that were stolen from the residence at the time of last weekend's homicide.

Both rings are 14K yellow gold. One being described as a wedding band with diamonds. The other ring is described as an engagement ring with two inset round diamonds on either side of a round prong-set diamond.

Along with the rings, an undisclosed amount of money was stolen from the home. Also, according to a source close to the investigation, seven hand guns and a large amount of ammunition were stolen.

Safadi's girlfriend called township police around 6 a.m. Saturday, saying James had been shot at their home on the 8900 block of South River Road. She told police three males broke into their home. She locked herself in the bathroom, where she dialed 911.

Safadi's family owned several carryouts in Toledo. They sent the following statement:

"The Safadi family is devastated by the tragic death of James Safadi. Jimmy was outgoing, generous and compassionate. He cared deeply about his family, friends and community."
