(Toledo News Now) -

Some states have state trees, birds, and animals – Ohio's are the Buckeye, cardinal, and white-tailed deer – but a new trend is seeing states name their own state dog.

Pennsylvania, for example, named the Great Dane its official state dog. But Colorado has gone a different route.

On Monday, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper signed a bill making all shelter dogs and cats their official state pets.

The governor's own shelter dog, Sky, stood by his side as he signed the bill, which was proposed by school children and signed into law at the Denver Animal Shelter.

After 3 straight days of downpours our pattern will briefly turn colder Thursday and Friday, allowing for a wintry mix to move back in. The ice threat is centered on the morning commute Thursday, especially south of Toledo. While large amounts of ice are not likely, it only takes a thin layer to cause problems. More >>
