Dad admits to drinking before leading cops on chase with child in car

AKRON, OH (WOIO) -

An Akron father charged after leading police on a chase with his child in the car.

Officers were on Copley Road when they observed a vehicle hit a tree at Copley and Mercer.

According to police, Jermaine Cody, Sr. was driving the vehicle and fled the scene when he saw the cops. He ran several red lights and went the wrong way on a one way street and also hit another vehicle before another police car stopped Cody to end the chase.

Cody had a child in the backseat of the vehicle during the chase. The child was taken to Children's Hospital.

19 Action News has learned Cody admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana before driving.

Cody is charged with willful flee, resisting arrest, child endangering, driving under the influence and obstructing official business.
