Napoleon Schools will try for levy again

NAPOLEON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Cuts could be on the way forthe Napoleon School District after voters turned down an earned income tax levyTuesday, but the superintendent says he's not giving up just yet.

"We've already cut so manypositions that I'm not sure the kids aren't going to feel it a little bit thistime," said Superintendent Dr. Stephen Fogo.

The district was about 140votes short of approving the levy that would have gone toward operating costsin the schools.

"So that would be salary andbenefits of all employees, the electricity, the utility bills that we have, paper, textbooks, those kinds of things," Fogo explained.

Without the money coming in,cuts will have to be made, and that's not sitting well with some parents.

"If you can't give a littlebit to help your community raise smarter children, what are you really doing?"asked resident Rechelle Miller.

Fogo says one thing they'll doto cut costs is not fill positions as teachers retire. He says they need thismoney though, so voters can plan on seeing another levy on the November ballot.

"Let's get it rallied up, let'sget some signs in the windows," Miller said. "Whatever we gotta do, let's doit."
