Firefighters train for the worst at BGSU

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Battling a blaze is a dangerous job that takes a lot of skill.

More than 400 firefighters are spending the week at Bowling Green State University for the State Fire School. They will train for the unexpected.

From chopping holes in vacant houses to rappelling down the football stadium, firefighters are getting hands-on experience with the situations they could face any day of the week.

The firefighters come from 132 departments and brigades from Ohio, Michigan and Ontario, Canada.

Training courses are taught by veteran fire instructors in Ohio, as well as Florida, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and New York.

Classes run from May 6 to 10.

Amanda St. Hilaire is live on ‘Your Morning,' showing what it takes to make it through State Fire School, beginning at 5:30 a.m.
