Wauseon PD teaches self defense

WAUSEON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

There's a push in Wauseonto protect residents from being victims of crime and assault.

The police department isholding a self defense seminar. The class is free and open to anyone who wantsto learn how to protect themselves.

Participants will learnphysical and verbal techniques to stay safe.

Police Chief Keith Torbetsays criminals look for easy targets, and he wants to make sure his residentsare prepared.

"It's vital," Torbet said."If we can prevent it, then we don't have a victim. If you can do a few smallsteps to prevent something from happening, then we don't have to deal with theconsequences of the violent act that took place."

The class will be June 6,from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Wauseon Police Department. The class is free, butdonations will be accepted for the Wauseon Center for Child and FamilyAdvocacy.
