SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Art Van Furniture is coming to Springfield Township this fall, bringing dozens of jobs with it.

The company held a job fair until 7 p.m. Thursday at the Best Western Premier Grand Plaza Hotel in downtown Toledo.

People that attended and filled out applications were excited about the new business coming to the area.

"They had some positions that really fit me," said Terry McCaleb. "So it wasn't like I was just jumping into something totally new."

Art Van is a Michigan-based company that's been in business for 53 years. They are currently expanding their business to northwest Ohio, building a new store.

"It's going to be a 90,000-square-foot, brand new, state-of-the-art, ground-up store," said Gary Duncan, of Art Van. "We're looking to hire at least 100 people in the Toledo area."

They're looking to fill management, sales, warehouse, and housekeeping positions.

Many job hunters say the new store will give northwest Ohio a good look.

"It's very beneficial because it's new, fresh blood in town, and people get a chance to show off their skills," said Richard Nelson.

For many years, Art Van has given opportunities to people by offering them jobs. They see it as a way to keep their community thriving.

"To have a strong community, you have to have jobs for people," Duncan said. "They have to be meaningful, they have to offer good benefits, and that's what we've been able to provide as a company for years."

The company is hoping to open the new store September 1. There will be another job fair from 9-3 on Friday, May 3.

After 3 straight days of downpours our pattern will briefly turn colder Thursday and Friday, allowing for a wintry mix to move back in. The ice threat is centered on the morning commute Thursday, especially south of Toledo. While large amounts of ice are not likely, it only takes a thin layer to cause problems. More >>
