Abortion clinic to lose license without hospital agreement

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

One of Toledo's abortion clinics is on the verge of losing its license after a failure to have a transfer agreement with a full-service hospital.

The Center for Choice was notified they have 30 days to request a hearing on the matter.

State health department regulations require abortion clinics to have a transfer agreement with a hospital that is willing to accept patients who experience complications that an outpatient facility can't handle. The last time the Center for Choice had a transfer agreement with any of the major Toledo hospitals was in 2010.

Local hospitals say they will accept any patient in need of care with or without written agreement, they just want to stand clear of the controversial issue of abortion.

A spokesperson for the Center for Choice said the state won't realize how important the clinic is until the community takes a stand on the issue.
