No suspects in incident with suspicious BG device

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

New information has emerged about the suspicious device that forced some residents out of their homes in Bowling Green Tuesday afternoon. The bomb squad detonated the device to stabilize the situation Tuesday evening.

Officials say the device was intentionally made to confuse police. It was made out of a pop bottle, designed to look like a bomb. Bowling Green police say if this was some sort of prank, it is no laughing matter.

On Tuesday, BG police and fire, along with the Toledo Bomb Squad, were tied up for four hours investigating the device. People living on North Enterprise Street were asked to evacuate their homes as a precaution.

Police say even though the device did not contain any explosives, it is still a serious crime that caused patrolling by police to stop and firefighters to be tied up.

Authorities are still looking for the suspect, or suspects, responsible.

"We know what the device was made from. It was a bottle - 2 liter pop bottle - that had some objects attached to it: some batteries, a motor and a switch. It was designed to look like a bomb," explained Lt. Daniel Mancuso, with the BGPD.

If you know any details about what happened or who was behind the incident, contact BG police at 419-352-1131.
