ERIE COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A young man's body was exhumed Wednesday morning in Erie County so a Lucas County medical examiner can determine his cause of death. Dozens of people showed up at the cemetery to protest.

In March 2012, Jake Limberios died of a gunshot wound to the head inside a Sandusky County home. Currently, his cause of death is listed as accidental suicide. However, family and friends do not believe he shot himself, so his parents asked for an investigation of homicide.

In November 2012, the family brought up his body and hired a forensic pathologist to conduct an autopsy. That expert said he found proof Limberios did not shoot himself. The family offered the expert's findings to a special prosecutor assigned to the case, but now the prosecutor wants a local medical examiner to do another autopsy.

On Wednesday, family and friends came to protest before Limberios' body was brought above ground.

"It's a little frustrating when that's my son, and I have no rights to say whether he's dug up or he's not," said Shannon Limberios.

On Tuesday night, Limberios' father said he would lie across his son's grave to keep the equipment from digging for the body, but Wednesday morning he said he changed his mind after speaking to the Erie County sheriff.
