TPS and city swap land for PAL, softball field

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo City Council approved a plan on Tuesday to swap land with Toledo Public Schools, aimed at boosting recreational opportunities.

TPS will be taking control of Optimist Park, the land located between Waite High School and Front Street, where the Waite Alumni Association is targeting a new softball field.

The city will be taking control of the former Leverette Junior High School site along Manhattan Blvd. The Police Athletic League (PAL) will be spending $250,000 to make the former school gym a stand-alone recreational facility for the PAL mentoring program.

Council approved spending $125,000 from the capital improvements fund and $125,000 from the parkland replacement fund for that project.
