BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Bowling Green Police say the situation is "stabilized" after a device was detonated Tuesday afternoon.

Police responded to the scene in the 500 block of North Enterprise Street after a plastic bottle with a wire was seen in the middle of the street, in front of the Enterprise Square Apartments.

The area was evacuated and the northwest Ohio bomb squad called. The bomb squad detonated the device after examining it with a robot. It is unclear if the device contained any explosives.

"We always have to err on the side of caution," said Lt. Daniel Mancuso, of the BG Police Department. "Obviously we didn't know what it was...so [the Toledo Bomb Squad] determined the best course of action was to detonate it."

North Enterprise Street was shut down for several hours due to the incident.

Students and others in the area weren't sure what to think.

"Why on North Enterprise? Why would someone put a bomb?" questioned Ian McNair. "Pretty much thought it was a fake, if anything."

Evidence was collected for investigation.
