    An Horry County mother and her boyfriend were arrested, and their children were placed in protective custody after officers found their home filled with piles of trash, animal waste, various insects, animals in poor condition, and an “unbearable” odor, according to a police report. The children, who were reportedly covered in bites and sores and appeared to be dirty, were taken into emergency protective custody, the report states.

    A controversial "Stand Your Ground" law that would make it easier for licensed gun owners to use lethal force in self-defense and could make it more difficult for local governments to pass their own gun laws has moved out of a House committee, state records show.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Susan G. Komen foundation will announce the 2013 grant recipients at The Power of the Promise event Tuesday night. 

The group will award $633,000 in grants to 18 local organizations to support mammograms, treatment and education about breast cancer.

The event will kick off at 5 p.m. at the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library. Toledo News Now's Chrys Peterson will MC the event and have live reports on WTOL 11 News starting at 5.

Susan G. Komen of Northwest Ohio is accepting submissions "In Memory of" breast cancer victims and "In Celebration of" breast cancer survivors. Submit someone yourself.
