Ramps closed for work on 23-223 interchange

Crews have started work on a roundabout at US 23 and 223 in Monroe County, making a longer commute for some.

LENAWEE COUNTY, MI (Toledo News Now) - Crews have started work on a roundabout at US 23 and 223 in Monroe County, making a longer commute for some.

By next fall, the interchange will have a new look. As crews progress to the next phase of the project, ramp closures have started.

The off-ramp to 223 from southbound 23, and the north 23 entry ramp from 223, are closed. Detours are posted and traffic is moving slower.

Some people in the area say they think the project will pay off in the long run.

"I think it's a good idea," said Marv Snavely. "It takes people awhile to get used to the roundabouts, but I do believe they make traffic quicker and more efficient, rather than a light or a stop sign."

This phase of the project is expected to be complete by late May. Then crews will begin work on the south half of the interchange.
