Troopers find Rx pills and strips, marijuana during Wood County traffic stop

Two Michigan people are facing felony charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized hundreds of prescription pills and strips, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia on Interstate 75 southbound in Wood County Friday.

WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) - Two Michigan people are facing felony charges after Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers seized hundreds of prescription pills and strips, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia on Interstate 75 southbound in Wood County Friday.

Troopers stopped a rented 2012 Chevrolet Cruze with Kentucky registration for a marked lanes violation on I-75 near milepost 189 around 12:30 a.m. Upon approaching the vehicle, troopers detected an odor of burnt marijuana.

A probable cause search revealed a baggie containing 231 Oxycodone pills, 90 Suboxone strips and one Ecstasy pill. Troopers found another small baggie containing marijuana, along with drug paraphernalia. Troopers also located an additional small baggie of marijuana in a ditch next to the vehicle. The contraband has an estimated street value of $7,800.

Both the driver, Kayla Sawka, 18, of Southfield, MI, and passenger, Dontay Harris, 26, of Hazel Park, MI, were incarcerated in the Wood County Justice Center.

The two have been charged with the following:

-1 count of trafficking and possession of Oxycodone, both second-degree felonies

-1 count of trafficking and possession of Oxycodone, both third-degree felonies

-Trafficking and possession in Suboxone, both fourth-degree felonies

Sawka was also charged with:

-Possession of marijuana drug paraphernalia, a minor-misdemeanor

Harris was also charged with:

-Tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony

-Possession of Ecstasy, a fifth-degree felony

-Providing false information, a first-degree misdemeanor

-Possession of marijuana, a minor-misdemeanor
