Maumee PD gets 4 new officers

MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Maumee Police Department has hired four new officers to fill positions left vacant by retired officers.

"We certainly have to have as much police protection as we can here in town," said resident Barb Michael.

Michael says a strong police department is the key to any city's success.

"We're excited about that…getting our strength back up close to what it's supposed to be," said Police Chief Robert Zink.

The new officers bring the department's total to 43. Zink says he's confident in his new boys in blue.

He says 24 officers interviewed for the job, and strong morals were definitely what they were looking for.

"When [the community sees] officers with honesty and integrity and character, that helps build the community's trust with the police department," he said.

The new hires are going through a 16-week training period, and will be riding along with training officers to get acclimated to the city.
