Facebook posts from more than a year ago caused controversy at a west Toledo business Tuesday night. While a community group won't stand for the derogatory comments made, the business owners feel the group's outrage has crossed the line.  The posts from Twin Oak Lanes owner Jeff Kuhnle that were made in 2016 and 2017 are now haunting him. The posts use derogatory and racially insensitive comments about Muslims.  "First of all as a Muslim woman living in America ...

Bedford Public Schools have their new superintendent, and board members say they picked the right man for the road ahead.

The search began in the middle of the school year, after Dr. Ted Magrum suddenly retired.

The board selected Mark Kleinhans, former superintendent of Montrose Schools, to lead the district out of deficit.

Kleinhans 3-year contract was approved April 11.

"I can't say enough about his high energy," said Board President Michael Smith. "We need somebody that is going to be out there representing the district extremely well, and having that energy, because he's got a lot of work ahead of him."

The board hopes Kleinhans can start in late June, after he finishes the school year at Montrose in Michigan, a district with about 3,000 fewer students than Bedford.

Kleinhans will be coming to a district in the middle of a financial hardship and deficit elimination plan.

"There are two things that are creating this deficit," Smith said. "One, the cuts that the State of Michigan have made to public education, and two, we need to increase our enrollment."

Dr. Jon White, who had previous history as Bedford's superintendent, has filled in as interim since Dr. Magrum stepped down.
