Toledo tax collections down so far in 2013

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Tax collections are slightly down in the City of Toledo for the first quarter of 2013.

Collections between January and March were $24,247,213.97, down from $25,202,974.50 during the same period in 2012.

Councilman George Sarantou says it's no time to push the panic button, but he hopes the administration keeps a close watch over expenses in case the tax collections become a downward trend.

"There's going to be a concern when you see a number like that for the first quarter," Sarantou said. "Part of it is a timing issue when payments are to be processed."

Councilman Rob Ludeman says with Chrysler adding jobs this year, he expects those figures to get better as the year goes on.

"I don't think it's a trend," he said. "I think we'll see hopefully in the next month or two it'll be coming back to normal of what we expect for 2013."
