Debit card scam circulating Putnam County

PUTNAM COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Putnam County Sheriff Michael Chandler has issued an alert for residents after reports of a recent debit card scam.

On Wednesday, the sheriff's office received several calls from residents who received a recorded message from Fort Jennings Bank stating their debit card was temporarily deactivated. The message requests the individual to activate the debit card by texting the account number and expiration date from his or her debit card.

Anyone who has received this message and released that information should contact his or her bank immediately to change account information.

If an account has been tampered with, money has been taken out, or unauthorized purchases have been made with an individual's debit card, he or she should contact the Putnam County Sheriff's Office to report the crime by calling 419-523-3208.
