WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) - Hundredsof dogs have been euthanized at the Wood County Dog Shelter over the past twoyears, but the warden is trying to change that.

Thisyear's adoption rate is only at 75 percent. So far this year, 25 dogs have beenput to sleep. Last year, 168 dogs were euthanized.

Themajority of those dogs were deemed unadoptable, and the Wood County Dog Warden saysthey could have been put down for issues like age, or lack of space at theshelter. Too often, though, he says it's because no one knew they were there tobegin with. That could change with the help of a brand new program.

"Withvolunteers, they are able to take pictures of dogs on a regular basis," ChiefDog Warden Andrew Snyder said.

Thevolunteers can post pictures of the adoptable dogs on websites like Petfinder andFacebook.

"Wetry to network, and try to find rescue groups for them," explained Nora Solomon,a volunteer that goes to the shelter on her lunch breaks to take pictures.

Solomonsays she helps with the small things that the warden doesn't have time to do.

"It'sthe best way for me to spend my lunch break, and it's so rewarding when thedogs find homes," she said. "They've been let down, and people should come tothe dog warden to help give them a good life."

Sofar, volunteers have helped place one dog at a local rescue.
