Napoleon may dissolve dispatch center

NAPOLEON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Inan attempt to save money, the Napoleon Dispatch Center may soon close, but noteveryone is on board with the idea.

Ifthe center closed, all local 911 calls would be routed to the Sheriff's Office.

Cityleaders say a performance audit showed the city could potentially save around$300,000 by dissolving their dispatch into the county's, but there are someconcerns.

"It'sreally a real safety issue," said Councilman Travis Sheaffer. "If we take oursout of service, if the Sheriff's tower goes down, who's going to answer thephone?"

Sheafferis presenting a plan that shows other ways for the city to deal with budget issues.

"A25 percent reduction in the income tax waiver for those who work out of town, reducing one lieutenant who is retiring this year, and then reducing onedispatching position," he explained.

TheHenry County Sheriff is working on finalizing numbers, and will soon present anestimated cost to Napoleon for picking up those services. After that, councilwill discuss their options and make a final decision.
