2nd floor of Lake High to be converted into classrooms

LAKE TOWNSHIP, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Students at Lake High School will soon have more rooms for learning, but no additions are planned for the building, as the superintendent says the project is not an expansion.

The  superintendent says they will be finishing 10,000 square feet on the second floor and converting the new space into five classrooms. The project is estimated to cost $400,000 but the school does not plan on spending any money to finish the classrooms.

The district received a sizeable estate from Joseph Baker, a resident who died several years ago. The superintendent says half of that money will be used to finish the classrooms; the rest will come from savings from closing Walbridge Elementary School.

Eighth-graders will be moving into the new space inside the high school. Fifth-graders will be moving into Lake Middle School.

Parents say they are happy about the new changes.

"I think it's a good idea. If they need the room, they need the room. If they can use the space adequately and they can find a good use for them, fine," said Jerry Ambroski.

Bidding has not started on the project. Officials will discuss the project at a board of education meeting May 15.
