TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Police need the public's help identifying a suspect after he robbed a Family Dollar in the 3000 block of Cherry Street in north Toledo Sunday night.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, an employee at Family Dollar said he observed a man walking back and forth, acting suspicious at the back of the store. When he went to check on him, he found the suspect attempting to cut a security tag off a bottle of Tide laundry soap. He also noticed the suspect's jacket was bulging.

When the suspect left the store, the employee went after him and told him to stop. That is when the suspect turned around and threw a brick at him. The suspect then fled across Cherry and down Fulton Street.

Police say all this over a household product is not that surprising and actually occurs often.

"Surprisingly, Tide seems to be something that is sought after, as far as thieves go. I think it's easily negotiated on the black market. People try to trade it for other types of items, like drugs, and other types of materials," explained Sgt. Joe Heffernan with the Toledo Police Department.

The suspect was caught on surveillance video and is described as a black male with a mustache and goatee wearing glasses, a black baseball cap with a white symbol on the front and white stripe along the brim, a black jacket with "3" on the right sleeve and black jeans.

Anyone with more information on the suspect or incident can call CrimeStoppers at 419-255-1111.
