Hoarded dogs improving at Toledo Humane Society

MAUMEE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Twelve dogs were sent to the Toledo Area Humane Society for a new start, to escape life-threatening conditions in southeastern Ohio.

Some of the dogs from the hoarding case are making progress: six of them have already been placed in foster homes. Others are still under special care.

The Humane Society staff has been working with the dogs to get them used to human interaction – something they didn't have in their previous home. They are still scared when someone approaches, and they are only used to being around other dogs.

"We've got staff members who are going in on a daily basis, several times a day, and just sitting in there with the dogs," explained Cyndi Condit. "Just spending time with them, just being around them…getting them used to having people around."

Because of the extra dogs at the Humane Society, shelves are running bare. They are asking for donations of canned dog food, peanut butter, and blankets and towels – even if they are used. Donations can be dropped off at their office in Maumee.
