Road project may take truck traffic out of Archbold

ARCHBOLD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

An effort to reduce trafficand improve safety is underway in Fulton County.

People in downtown Archboldsay trucks regularly cut through their streets to get to the Turnpike. Theyhave signs posted to help protect businesses and people in the area.

"They aren't able to make ourcorners very well," said Carla Rupp of Rupp's Furniture. "The truck traffic ishard because it is a tight spot downtown."

Residents and local businessowners say they want to see a change, so the project is at the top of a listrecently put together by the Fulton County Engineer, Frank Onweller.

"The ultimate hope would beState Route 66 would move out of downtown Archbold, and would be shifted overon to the improved County Road 24," Onweller said.

Onweller is hoping fundingfor the project can come from Turnpike revenue bonds, and he just submittedinformation to the County Engineers Association of Ohio to get the applicationprocess started.
