Toledo travelers: Plane ticket or train ticket?

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Toledo is the home of the busiest passenger Amtrak station in Ohio. Amtrak representatives say ridership reached a historic high in March.

In a statement, Amtrak President and CEO Joe Boardman said, "The continued ridership growth on routes across the country reinforces the need for dedicated, multi-year federal operating and capital funding to support existing intercity passenger rail services and the development of new ones."

The growth in Amtrak passengers could mean an upswing in the local economy.

WTOL 11 compared the price of a roundtrip Amtrak ticket from Toledo to Washington, DC. Amtrak ticket prices revealed that the trip would cost $156.

The same destination was estimated for a flight. The cheapest plane ticket available was a whopping $613.

While the cost is significantly less, passengers must also consider time constraints. A train ride could take days, while a flight is typically over within hours.
