Wood County wraps up week of earth friendly activity

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Today, Wood County wrapped up Earth Week at the Earth First Celebration.

Folks gathered at Bowling Green city park for a picnic and other family friendly activities.

The celebration was the culmination of a week's worth of environmental activities including park and litter cleanups and a garden work day.

Organizers say the United States produces an estimated thirty percent of the world's waste.

They believe Earth Day should be every day.

"All of us should be doing things in our daily lives to, either, re-cycle, reduce waste, conserve energy, water, those kinds of things," said Amanda Gamby of the Wood County Solid Waste District.

The first Earth Day, 43 years ago, was in response to an oil spill near Santa Barbara, California.
