If you were in North Toledo Saturday night, you may have seen smoke just billowing into the air. Toledo fire crews were called out to a fire at Omnisource Recycling plant.  Crews got to the plant on North Detroit just after 6 p.m. and they say a pile of sheet iron caught fire. Right now that fire is out and fire crews say there are no environmental issues or runoff problems.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

On Thursday, the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority board will vote on a proposal for developing 7 of the 85 acres of land at the Overland Industrial Park, through a proposed lease-sale agreement with Airgas Inc.

Work will start soon for installing utility lines and a road through the property, the former Jeep Parkway site.

The proposal calls for Airgas Inc. to build a new 40-thousand square foot facility, to consolidate its regional operations.

The company distributes industrial, medical and specialty gases, as well as hard goods such as welding equipment and supplies, and the new facility would be home to 25 employees.

A lease-purchase agreement has been negotiated, and Port Authority President Paul Toth says he sees this as the first step towards attracting employers to the site.

"One of the challenges with industrial parks, or any parks, frankly, is nobody wants to be the first in. We've got a great partner with Airgas. Assuming our board approves this it will certainly break the ice. We're already working with a couple of other potential opportunities out there," said Mr. Toth.

This deal is separate from the deal in place for construction of a 100-thousand square foot spec building, and Toth says the goal would be to attract an auto supplier to that facility.
