Republic Services employees return to work

TOLEDO, OH (Press Release) -

Picketers have left the Republic Services Toledo facility and all employees have returned to work following a sympathy strike.

Teamsters from Youngstown initiated the strike and appeared in Toledo on Tuesday. While Teamster leadership has not announced any specific reason why picket lines have been established, the company believes the primary issue involves negotiations for Republic to exit from the failing Central States Pension Fund.

Trash collection for all Toledo-area customers – residential, commercial and industrial – will continue Friday and Saturday. This includes residents in the city of Toledo, city of Sylvania, city of Maumee, Monclova Township, Perrysburg, Sylvania Township and Monroe County, Michigan.

Most communities will be collected one day behind their normal schedule. Residents are asked to keep their trash and recycling at the curb until it is collected.

The company anticipates regular collection schedules to resume next week.
