BGSU looks into flight program changes

BOWLING GREEN, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Bowling Green State University is looking to possibly privatize its flight program, which has some current aviation students wondering how it will affect them.

BGSU's Vice President Dr. Rodney Rogers said the university is talking with three private companies at the moment, and if they do decide to privatize the program, it will not impact students at all.

But students still want some answers.

"We just think it's being rushed a little bit too fast, and they're not putting enough thought into it," said Aviation Studies student Bryan Combs. "We would like to see the dean answer some of our questions about the transition period."

And if a private company does take over the program, students worry some of their flight hours won't transfer.

"Up to 50 percent of our hours, that's the max we can transfer," Combs said. "The students are kind of wondering if that happens, whose going to reimburse us for the additional flight time that's going to be required."

The students say they just want some better communication from the administration, and they will soon be getting just that.

Dean of the College of Technology Dr. Faris A. Malhas scheduled a town hall meeting April 24 to answer any and all questions the Aviation Studies program may have.
