Ohioans join 24-hour sit-in for organ donations

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -
During the month of April, several northwest Ohioans will sit for a cause.

In honor of National Donate Life Month, Life Connection of Ohio, the organ procurement organization that serves northwest and west central Ohio, will host a 24-hour Donate Life Sit-in at WTOL TV (730 N. Summit St., Toledo).

During those 24 hours, transplant recipients, donor family members and those who support the cause will rotate in and out of the Green Chair, the star of Donate Life Ohio's awareness campaign.

The overstuffed Green Chair's meaning is two-fold. When it's empty, the Green Chair represents overwhelming sadness from the loss of someone who was waiting for a transplant that never came. But when someone is sitting in the Green Chair, it showcases a transplant recipient's second chance at life. The tagline of the Green Chair Campaign is "Don't let another chair go empty" because the more people who register as organ and tissue donors, the fewer empty chairs there will be.

For more information about organ and tissue donation, contact Life Connection of Ohio at 419.893.4891. Don't let another chair go empty! Register as an organ and tissue donor at www.DonateLifeOhio.org.

Note: The sit will be streamed live on toledonewsnow.com, except during WTOL 11 newscasts. The news will be streamed instead. The screen will appear black during commercials.

After double overtime, the Toledo Walleye came out on top and beat the Indy 3-2 Thursday night for a sweep in the series. Even though the fish had a 3-0 lead in the first round playoff series, the toughest thing to do in hockey is to beat a desperate team on their home ice.  Halfway through a second overtime Kyle Bonis sets up Christian Hillbrich to score the game winning goal.  The Walleye now advances to the second round. They will play the winner of the Fort Wayne and ...More >>
