TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Lucas County Auditor Anita Lopez officially entered the Toledo Mayoral Race on Tuesday, April 16.

"I believe in Toledo because we can do better and we must do better," Lopez said at an election rally just after 5 p.m. Tuesday. "I am today announcing my candidacy for Mayor of Toledo."

Last week, Lopez, a Democrat, spoke at an immigration reform meeting at the University of Toledo on Wednesday, April 10. She told the crowd she was excited about the future of Toledo and her role in it.

She did not officially announce that she is throwing her hat in the ring, but she told the crowd to look for exciting news in the near future.

"We are looking forward to having a huge announcement next week," said Lopez.

Other candidates who have already announce their run for office include current Mayor Mike Bell, Councilman Joe McNamara, Alan Cox, Opal Covey and Michael Konwinski.
