TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Toledo Zoo's twin polar bear cubs are almost ready to make their big splash, but there's something they need first: names! You can help by entering the "Name the Twin Polar Bear Cubs" contest, starting April 16.

The zoo's keepers have provided suggestions for each of the cubs' names (one female and one male).

Female Cub:

-Holly: Holly Reed was a prominent polar bear veterinarian

-Suka (Sue-kah): Inuit word for fast

-Tooteqa (Two-te-gah): Inuit word for wise goddess

Male Cub:

-Sakari (Sah-kah-ree): Inuit word for sweet

-Desna (Dez-nah): Inuit word for boss

-Tunerk (Two-nerk): Inuit word for gift

From the winning name entries, the zoo will draw two random prize winners: one for the winning female name and one for the winning male name. Each winner will receive a one-year family membership to the Toledo Zoo, enrollment in the Zoo's polar bear ZooPAL program and many other "bear-tastic" gifts.

Voting is easy:

-Go on the Toledo Zoo's website

-Visit the zoo in person at the North Star Trading Post® Gift Shop near the main entrance, or KC's Corner Store by Nature's Neighborhood

-Enter by mail with an official ballot from The Blade

All entries are due by 11:59 a.m. May 1. Zoo officials expect to announce the cubs' names and prize winners May 3, after notifying the winners.

Click here for a complete list of the official contest rules.

The cubs will be off exhibit until early May. For visitors who just can't wait that long to see them, limited behind-the-scenes VIP tours are available, starting April 17. Advance reservations are recommended.
