Three-vehicle crash, one critically injured

SHERWOOD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A crash Tuesday morning on SR 18 in Defiance County left one driver critically injured.

According to the Defiance State Highway Patrol Post, around 7:20 a.m.

A 2001 Dodge Ram truck, driven by Joe Plummer, failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of SR 18 and US 127.

Plummer was struck on the driver's side by another vehicle, a 2001 Ford F350, driven by 47-year-old Fred Kreiner of Wauseon.

The impact from the crash pushed Plummer's truck into a Semi-Truck heading northbound, causing him to hit the trailer axles.

Both Plummer and Kreiner's vehicles came to rest on US 127, blocking the roadway.

The trailer of the northbound Semi-Truck struck a utility pole.

All of the drivers were wearing a seatbelt, except for Plummer.

The intersection was closed for about an hour as the crash scene was cleared.

Plummer was flown from the scene by air ambulance and taken to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Authorities say he is in critical condition. Plummer's age and address have not yet been released.

This year's Race for the Cure in Findlay is taking place right in the middle of a September heat wave. Temperatures at race time will be in the 70s. By midday expect temperatures in the mid-to-upper 80s under bright sunshine. This would be a hot and oppressive day right in the middle of summer, let alone in late September.  Be sure to prepare for the conditions by drinking plenty of fluids and considering wearing a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
