TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Katie Sheppard was the victim of domestic violence.
Last November, Katie was allegedly strangled to death by her husband Kyle.
Today, her family hopes no other women will go through the same ordeal.
On Sunday, they held a memorial benefit to celebrate Katie's life.
Money raised will go to the local battered women's shelter.
Katie's mom, Lisa Spross, has a somber message for all women.
'If anyone is in trouble in a relationship with domestic violence, please tell someone. Please let them know so someone can help you,' she said.
Kyle Sheppard fled to Canada after the killing where he turned himself into authorities.
He's still awaiting extradition back to Toledo.
He has been indicted by a grand jury for the murder.
