BX Solutions announces layoffs

SWANTON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

BX Solutions opened at Toledo Express Airport in 2011. On Friday, the company announced layoffs because of a drop in production.

The drop comes after a big client announced major cutbacks in its 3-year contract with BX.

About 250 full and part time employees work at the sorting and distribution center.

BX CEO and President Christopher Marshall says he was blindsided by the decision.

"It's just a downsizing of operations," he said. "But it's a downsizing significant enough where it will impact our employees and [that's] why we disclosed it."

Marshall says the timing couldn't be worse. BX saw significant growth in 2012. The first quarter of 2013 continues that trend.

There are now two daily shifts. The goal is to continue that success.

"But we still have quite a bit going on with other customers that we had and a trucking network that is coming through," Marshall said. "And [we're] trying to figure out how to move from today to some opportunities we think are near at hand."

For now, his biggest concern will be the laid-off workers. Marshall doesn't know how many will go, but he plans to re-hire them at the earliest opportunity.

"It's a very tight-knit group of employees and we consider them to be family, so the immediacy of that is a dramatic impact to our community and to them."

Marshall says he'll know early next week how many workers will be let go.
