DEFIANCE, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Inspired by her friend who passed away from cancer, a 12-year-old girl is giving back to a local children's hospital in a huge way.

Tiana Bishop and Kenna Wagner met in gymnastics class when they were 4. They instantly became best friends.

Tiana was diagnosed with cancer in 2009. Kenna visited Tiana often at Toledo Children's Hospital and just fell in love with all the kids there.

"As she was here, I met many amazing children," said Kenna.

Those who knew Tiana say she was the most caring and giving person you could meet, and truly taught those around her how to give back. So after her passing just over a year ago, Kenna came up with the idea to do a "fun" Band-Aid Drive to donate cheerful Band-Aids to children in hospitals to make them smile.

"I felt that they deserved to be happy and have something to smile about when they got a fun Band-Aid. So, I wanted to do that, and that's another inspiration on why I did this," explained Kenna.

With the help of Facebook, this young girl from the small town of Defiance, has collected more than 50,000 Band-Aids from around the world! Every state contributed to the cause, along with the United Kingdom, Guam, Poland, Austria and Japan. Kenna says the response "blew her mind."

"Considering my goal was a thousand, and I went way over that, I am very happy," said Kenna.

Kenna will deliver them to the Toledo Children's Hospital and Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.
