Rossford thief may have distracted police ahead of time

ROSSFORD, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Surveillance pictures have been released of a crook that targeted a local drug store.

Police say the man walked up to the pharmacy and demanded three types of prescription pills, threatening to kill the employees if they didn't hand it over.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 5-foot-7-inches tall, weighing between 190 and 220 pounds, with dark hair, a long black beard, and several tattoos on both arms. He was wearing a leather coat, ball cap, gloves and sunglasses the day of the robbery.

Police say they also discovered that he robbed a nearby convenience store the day before, and stole a couple packs of cigarettes, but the incident was never reported.

The police received a call about another robbery at a Shell station on Buck Road just minutes before the pharmacy robbery – but it was a false report. Now police believe it was just a diversion.

"The suspect, I believe, made the first call, just to get the police out of the area," said Det. Sgt. Todd Kitzler of the Rossford Police. "And then did his crime at the Rite Aid, and was able to leave without being caught by the police."

The man has also been seen driving an old, white pick-up truck.

Anyone with information on the case or that sees the suspect is asked to call the Rossford Police Department at 419-666-5230.
