TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The future of the Toledo-Lucas County HeadStart program is currently up in the air.

The grant money from the Economic OpportunityPlanning Association (EOPA) that funds the program runs out in June. Both EOPAand Toledo Public Schools applied for a grant to run the program next year, butneither group met requirements for the grant.

Leaders from both organizations said they hada lot of strengths, but didn't give enough information in areas such as how toincrease family engagement or provide properly trained employees.

EOPA officials say they plan to re-apply, andsay they have several advantages over an outside company.

"Our employees live with the people whom weserve, so there's a rapport there," said Rev. Donald Perryman, board chair ofEOPA.

The TPS board now has to decide if they wantto re-apply.
