Fifth Third Field prepares for Mud Hens Opening Day

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The weather may not be enough to keep people away come game time, but so far, downtown Toledo looks a little empty for the Mud Hens home opener.

Around noon, the grounds crews were putting the final touches on the field.

Some of the local bars opened early Thursday, in anticipation of large crowds.

Activities will start at 3 p.m. and include live entertainment. WTOL's Chrys Peterson will sing the National Anthem.

"Rain or shine, the party will be here. There's plenty of food, drinks. It will be a fun atmosphere. The team's ready to play in front of their hometown crowd," said Cheri Pastula, manager of community relations.

The Mud Hens started the season on the road and currently have a record of 1-6. They hope support from Toledo will bring them a win on Opening Day.

Tune in to WTOL 11 and FOX Toledo for full coverage of the day's events.
