Oregon administrator turns down raise

Michael Beazley Michael Beazley
OREGON, OH (Toledo News Now) -

If your boss offered you a raise, would you turn it down? Oregon City Administrator Michael Beazley did.

Beazley said he enjoys his job and thinks his salary is sufficient. He has been the city administrator for three years.

The pay raise was proposed at a city meeting last week. The increase was a 2.5 percent raise.

"I think as the chief administrator, I think it's good to try to set an example," Beazley said. "These have been hard times for local government, we're trying to control cost, and when I looked at it, it just seems like a good step."

This is not the first time Beazley turned down a raise. When he was initially hired, Mayor Mike Seferian wanted to pay him $135,000 as salary, but Beazley said he would take the job for $120,000.

He has two more years in his contract, and Beazley says after that he'll look at the market and, if it's different, he'll look to possibly discuss a raise. But for now, he says he's fine.
