TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) -

A student group at the University of Toledo is celebrating a major accomplishment on Tuesday.

According to university officials, Dive UT, the scuba diving club, broke the Guinness Book of World Records for the longest time under water by a group of divers in a confined area.

The team defeated the previous record of 6 days and 21 hours underwater at 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Officials say the divers plan to stay underwater until approximately 1 p.m. Tuesday, exceeding the seven day mark.

A "splash down" celebration of their accomplishment will take place at 1 p.m., Tuesday, in the Student Union Trimble Lounge.

The UT mascot Rocky and university leadership will be in attendance.
