Father, daughter kayakers missing on Lake Erie

The Coast Guard assisted local law enforcement in their search for a missing father and daughter in the Sandusky Bay.

The Erie County Sheriff's Office and Margaretta Township Fire Department have also joined the search by scanning the shoreline. The Coast Guard in Detroit sent out a helicopter to help with the search as well. 

Authorities have identified the missing as 12-year-old Viola Francis and 30-year-old Jonathan Francis, both of Sandusky.

Francis's girlfriend reported the pair as missing on Sunday morning.

The pair was last seen Saturday night kayaking near Crystal Rock. They planned to paddle to the Edison Bridge and back, according to officials.

Neither kayaker has been seen since, and they were reportedly not wearing life jackets.

Jonathan is reported to be wearing navy blue sweatpants and a hoodie sweatshirt and Viola was reported to be wearing pink boots, dark leggings and a dark coat. Neither were seen wearing life jackets.

According to the Ninth Coast Guard District, both of the kayaks were found around 9:00 am on the southern shore of Sandusky Bay near Lightner road in Ottawa County.

One was on the shore upside down, the other was partially submerged in the water leading officials to believe the boats washed ashore.

Anyone who sees them is asked to call 911 or the Erie County Sheriff's Office at 419-625-7951.

    ProMedica does not seem to be slowing down its buying spree. Reuters reported that ProMedica is acquiring HCR Manor Care. According to Reuters, ProMedica is teaming up with Welltower which is a Toledo based real estate trust. The two are proposing a purchase of bankrupt HCR for $2 billion.
