Sandy Spang running for Toledo council

Toledo businesswoman Sandy Spang has pulled petitions, and has announced she's running for council this year.

TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Toledo businesswoman Sandy Spang has pulled petitions, and has announced she's running for council this year.

The election this year is for the six at-large council seats, and because Joe McNamara is running for mayor, George Sarantou is term-limited and Phil Copeland has become Lucas County Recorder, there will be some new faces on council next year.

Spang runs the Plate 21 coffeehouse in south Toledo. She says she's running as an Independent.

"I want to make the best decisions for Toledo, based on research, based on thoughtful consideration, and not by party dictates," she said.

The filing deadline for candidates is July 12. The top 12 finishing in the September primary will move onto the November election.
