Wood County prom blitz begins

WOOD COUNTY, OH (Toledo News Now) -

The Wood County Prom Blitz is underway. The sheriff's office will be cracking down on impaired driving and underage drinking at parties for about two months.

The blitz started April 1 and will run through May 31. The sheriff's office will conduct increased patrol on prom weekends, and will be on the lookout for traffic violations.

Sheriff Mark Wasylyshyn also says they will be cracking down on high school parties serving alcohol, and there will be zero tolerance for underage drinking.

"It's such an important time of year to make sure that the parents and the children know that it is not okay to go to a high school party and drink alcohol," Wasylyshyn said.

The sheriff says they will follow-up on all phone calls they receive about high school parties throughout the blitz.

The blitz has been conducted for the past eight years.
